About us

Our Story

Max Accountants was founded in 2011 by Martin Hickman, taking advantage of the advent of cloud-based applications, such as Xero. Since then, we have increased our focus on providing services to the tech-community, who now make up over 90% of our customer base.

As a result, we have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by this sector and also the range of opportunities available to them, such as R&D tax credits, (S)EIS tax reliefs and grant funding.

Our mission is to be the accounting partner of choice for early-stage technology and high-growth companies. Combining our specialist knowledge and expertise with the latest cloud-based technology, we aim to deliver scalable accounting support and tailor our services to meet your needs.

We also provide for the development, growth and accountability of our team members, as we know that surrounding ourselves with talented, driven people who share our values is the key to success; we want to ensure that our people stay for the long term.

Our Team

Martin Hickman FCMA - Director

Prior to founding Max Accountants in 2011 I spent over 25 years working in industry – mainly with FTSE 250 listed companies – where I held a number of senior management roles in finance, sales and operations.

Sarah Royle BSc Hons, FCA - Director

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant whilst working in audit at Deloitte; this was followed by six years in their Fiscal Valuation Services department. Since then I have worked in both industry and practice, with a particular interest in the veterinary sector.

Helen Campbell FMAAT, MCIPPdip

I joined Max Accountants in March 2020 as the Team Manager, prior to which I spent a number of years in finance and payroll within both the hospitality industry and education.

Erica Straw

I spent 10 years as an Officer in the Royal Air Force (Administrative Branch) and 5 years in finance in the retail sector before joining the Max Accountants team in September 2014.

Nicky Partington MAAT, ACIPP

I joined the Max Accountants team in August 2016 prior to which I spent a number of years in the construction and manufacturing industries as well as working in the public sector.

Kirsty Ewan AIPP

I joined Max Accountants as a payroll assistant in 2019 prior to which I spent a number of years working in payroll in the public sector as well as for a facilities management company.

Kayleigh Henson MAAT

I began my accounting career in 2012 working for a small family run accountancy firm gaining my initial AAT qualifications. Since which I have worked within both practice and industry before joining Max Accountants in November 2020 with aims to complete my AAT qualifications.

Jaskaran Singh

I joined Max Accountants in May 2021 as an Accounts Assistant. Prior to this role, I worked in the insurance industry and accounting practice. Currently pursuing my Association of Accounting Technician Qualifications.

Barbara Raine

I started my AAT studies whilst working for a small tech start-up in Cambridge. I joined the Max Accountants team in 2019 as an accounts assistant. Previously to this, I enjoyed a career in secondary education in both the state and private sectors.

Hannah Munton MAAT

I joined the Max Accountants team in August 2022 as an Accounts Assistant, prior to which I spent several years working for a small family run firm within the legal sector.

Nicole Everington MAAT

Prior to joining Max Accountants in February 2022 as Management Accountant, I spent a number of years working in wholesale, retail and construction.

Janice Tang MAAT, ACA

I joined Max Accountants in June 2022 as the Financial & Tax Accountant. Prior to this, I spent a number of years working in general accountancy practices during which I completed my AAT and ICAEW qualifications.
